More than 200 researchers are expected to attend the conference on research on potentially hazardous substances and mutagens in the environment.

The 53rd International Scientific Conference EEMGS2025 will take place from 2 to 5 June 2025 at the Park Inn Hotel in Bratislava. This prestigious event in the field of research on potentially hazardous substances and mutagens in the environment will take place in Slovakia for the first time. The conference is organized under the auspices of the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (BMC SAS), in cooperation with the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS). More than 200 researchers are expected to participate.

The European Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EEMGS) is a recognised scientific organisation that promotes research on biologically active substances and mutagens in the environment that may pose a risk to human health. Its aim is to contribute to solving public health problems by sharing scientific knowledge and promoting innovation in this field.

This year’s conference is subtitled:

Protecting Genome Integrity: Linking Science and Public Health in Environmental Mutagenesis

The aim of the symposium is to bring together experts from diverse fields encompassing scientific research institutions, healthcare, regulatory authorities and the corporate sector to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and understanding in the field of genomics and environmental mutagenesis relevant to the protection of human health and the environment.

Participants will share insights from a range of studies in applied, population and molecular biology, as well as cancer genetics. For example, the impact of the environment, climate change and working conditions on the genomes of human cells and organs as well as plants and animals will be addressed.

The symposium will feature presentations by renowned experts, including Frits Sobels 2024 award winner Dr. Mária Dušinská (Norwegian Institute for Atmospheric Research, Norway), President of The European Society of Toxicology In Vitro Dr. Helena Kanďárová (Centre for Experimental Medicine of the SAS, Slovakia), the first Slovak member of the prestigious European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and Director General of the BMC SAS Dr. Silvia Pastoreková, as well as Dr. Jiří Neužil (Institute of Biotechnology of the CAS, Czech Republic), an expert in the field of tumour cell biology.

In addition to an ambitious scientific programme, we will also support the work of young scientists who will have the opportunity to organise, lead and present their findings in specialised sessions.
